February 12, 2026 at 6:00 pm
The Town Board meeting was called to order February 12, 2026, at 6:00 pm. at the Akan Town Hall, 12249 State Hwy 171, Blue River, WI 53518
Pledge of Allegiance – was led by Kathy Maly.
Call to Order – by Maly, 2nd by Rossing.
Roll Call – Present: Kathy Maly, Jon Rossing, Steve Meyer, Maggie Buc, and Jessica Laeseke
Verify Posting – Road sign and online.
Approve the Agenda– Motion by Rossing and 2nd by Maly to approve the agenda. All Aye, carried.
Minutes from 2/12/2026 – Motion by Meyer and 2nd by Rossing with the amendment of changing the Minutes from 12/11/2025 to 1/8/2026. All Aye, carried.
Treasurer’s Report – A balance forwarded of $399,856.06 for January. Month ending with a checkbook balance of $470,826.57. Motion to accept the treasurer’s report for February by Maly, second by Rossing. Motion carried.
Present and Approve Bills for Payment– Motion by Rossing to approve the bills, seconded by Meyer. Motion carried.
Specific Matters for Discussion:
- New Business
- Jenkins Property Rezone on Deep Well- Own 120 acres on Deep Well want to keep 2 acres with house and sell the rest to her son who is an LLC. They sent a letter to the board and will be back in March. Motion by Meyer to table until March second by Rossing. All aye carried.
- Old Business
- Kinney Lane update with action– Motion by Meyer with a second by Rossing to have Laeseke reach out to the landowners based on the statute for discontinuing the road.
- Employee Handbook update-Discussion on the employee handbook by each section. Section by section.
- Drug & Alcohol Policy- Motion by Meyer second by Rossing to accept the policy. Nay by Maly.
- Performance/Wage Review- Motion by Meyer second by Rossing to accept the policy. Nay by Maly.
- Compensation Time and Pay Policy- Motion by Maly second by Rossing to accept the policy, All aye carried.
- Overtime and Holiday Policy- Motion by Maly second by Rossing to accept the policy. All aye carried.
- Vacation Policy- Motion by Meyer second by Rossing. All aye carried.
- Funeral Leave Policy- Motion by Meyer second by Maly. All aye carried.
- Standard Work Hours Policy- Motion by Meyer second by Rossing. All aye carried.
- Health Insurance Policy- Motion by Meyer to table until August, second by Rossing. All aye carried.
Under specific matters for discussion-
Roads Report- Meyer said truck was just services and he thinks the big truck is leaking hydraulic fluid.
Recycling Report– Southwest called Maly to see if we wanted a bid from them. Maly will check into their pricing and see if we can get out of our contract if there is a price difference.
Buildings Report-
Ambulance Report- NA
Fire Report- Nothing happening on the need for new land. Richland Township received is pushing back on payment until they receive a copy of their contract. Maly said she can get our contract too.
Public comments and suggestions from residents of the town and other persons present. – Barsi wondered about applying for more grants, Rossing said we can have Jewell work to apply for grants too. Hendricks wondered what our thoughts were on the ambulance service- we mentioned what we did back during budget season to look into other options.
