PUBLIC NOTICE
The Town Board meeting was called to order May 14, 2026, at 7:00 pm at the Akan Town Hall, 12249 State Hwy 171, Blue River, WI 53518.
Pledge of Allegiance – was led by Kathy Maly.
Call to Order – by Maly, 2nd by Rossing.
Roll Call – Present: Kathy Maly, Steve Meyer, Maggie Buc, and Jessica Laeseke
Verify Posting – Road sign and online.
Approve the Agenda– Motion by Meyer and 2nd by Maly to approve the agenda. All Aye, carried.
Minutes from 4/21/2026 – Motion by Meyer and 2nd by Maly. All aye, carried.
Treasurer’s Report – A balance forwarded of $104,066.60 for April. Month ending with a checkbook balance of $109,464.30. Motion to accept the treasurer’s report for May by Meyer, second by Maly. Motion carried.
Present and Approve Bills for Payment– Motion by Meyer to approve the bills, seconded by Maly. Motion carried.
Next Town Board Meeting; 6/11/2026
Specific Matters for Discussion:
A. New Business
– Seal Coat and Hauling Bids with possible actions- No hauling bids were received. Seal Coat bids were opened from Scott Construction with a single seal of $19,215 per mile and double seal of $38,430 per mile. Fahrner presented with $18,853 single per mile and $36,999 per mile double seal. Motion by Meyer to accept the seal coat bid from Fahrner with a second by Maly.
– Akan Township Smoking Policy- Motion by Meyer to accept the draft Akan Township Smoking Policy with the edit of in Akan township vehicles, not just enclosed vehicles. All aye carried.
B. Old Business
– Shady Bridge Road- Meyer at road school received an image for the a different kind of bridge that are steel. Rossing said we had steel on Deep Well too and lifted and didn’t come back down. The first report for the bridge. Was related to I-beams being washed out and not good- so it would need a new top. Rossing said they would need to break the concrete, replace I-beams, and put new concrete in. Laeseke can put a notice in the paper to request bids. Motion by Meyer to place Shady Bridge determination on hold until we receive bids for repair of the structure. Second by Rossing. All aye carried.
– Ordinance to disallow data processing and high tower electric lines- County meeting coming up on May 19th at 6:00 pm. Laeseke will look into putting on agenda.
Under specific matters for discussion-
Roads Report- Patching has started- 8 roads so far, Kevin is working on getting the mower ready. Filling potholes first then edges for patching. Hoffman aid Kanton needs to be re-sealed, they typically get resealed in 2-3 years and we are at year 3. Hill on West Ridge could use seal coat again.
Recycling Report– Laeseke said we were overcharged and is following-up on the overcharge. Maly is looking at another garbage and vendor. People bringing garbage and other items they shouldn’t be outside of hours. Starting June 1st we will have hours Saturday 8 – noon and Monday – Friday from 8:00 am – 2:00 pm
Buildings Report- NA. Kathy called Merrill and they never returned the call. Rossing will call Merrill, Maly will call Rynes.
Ambulance Report- County Board will vote on the 19th and will probably vote to have a levy to support the ambulance service. The cost may be about $28/$100,000 to each tax payer if the levy is passed.
Fire Report- Want to do building inspection once/year.
Public comments and suggestions from residents of the town and other persons present. – Rondeau wondered if we could get a Dead End road sign for School Lane. Hoffman said we need some additional road signs- Decker signs. Rondeau said a curb pile on Two Creeks by Rondeaus place, Hoffman will be correct.
